Top tips for Winter Wanderings

Published on 01st November 2018

Whether you are staying local or venturing further afield for some guaranteed snow and ski you can feel safe in the knowledge that by hiring from Capricorn Campers you will have a Motorhome fit for the job. With Prices from £49 - £75 per day your winter adventure won’t have to break the bank either.

1)Basic Maintenance  It is important whenever you are planning a road trip to ensure your vehicle is in tip top condition but it is vital during the winter.  Here at Capricorn Campers we take vehicle maintenance very seriously and in between every hire all of the fluids including oil, engine coolant water and windscreen wash are checked and topped up when necessary.  Tyre pressure are also checked before every hire.

2)Be prepared  All of our vehicles are fitted with “Mud and Snow” tyres and to keep you on the right side of the law you will be provided with snow chains when venturing across the channel as it is compulsory to have them on board in many countries.  We also recommend that you pack a snow shovel to dig your way out of any snow drifts!!

3)Staying warm  When it comes to heating and hot water you won’t have any worries about your gas freezing and not being able to get the heating and hot water to work as all of our Motorhomes are fitted with an LPG Gaslow Refillable Cylinder System.   As opposed to butane which freezes at just below freezing LPG (liquid Petroleum Gas) will keep on working just fine anywhere down to -42. So unless you’re heading to the South Pole you aren’t going to have any issues!!!

4)Make sure sites are open  For a Winter road trip it is well worth doing a little homework before you set off to search for all year round campsites as many close for the Winter.  However the Camping and Caravanning club alone has over 800 all year round campsites so you’ll never have trouble finding the perfect spot.

5)There’s no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing!!  I know it sounds obvious but make sure you pack the appropriate clothing.  Whilst you can be sure of a nice warm motorhome to welcome you back after a day’s adventures there’s no telling what the weather will throw at you and there is nothing worse than getting cold and wet.  If you stick with the principle of 3 base layers and a waterproof outer layer you won’t go far wrong.
